Kyoto, Nison-in Temple in fresh greenery2023. A popular spot with beautiful gardens in Arashiyama.

Nison-in Temple is located in Sagano, Kyoto, about 40 minutes from Kyoto Station by train and on foot. The temple is called Nison-in because the two principal deities of the temple are Shaka Buddha and Amida Buddha. In mid-late April, Kirishima azalea greets visitors near the entrance. The approach to the temple, called “Baba of Autumn Leaves,” and various parts of the temple grounds are famous for their autumn foliage, but it is also a good time to relax and enjoy the beautiful fresh green of the temple grounds during spring to early summer season.

Photography Notes
On this day, the Kirishima azalea near the entrance was in full bloom and at its best. On the other hand, the Kirishima azalea on both sides of the approach to the temple were past their best viewing time. I think it would have been better to visit the approach one week earlier (the same timing as Nagaoka Tenjin shrine).
As for the green maples, fresh green leaves were beautiful here and there along the approach, at the Imperial Gate, and around the Kuromon gate.
