super helpful! thanks.
Hello about the jr pass change, i have a couple questions. Can you go directly into the non-reserved seats on the bullet train? do i need to always reserve a sit if i believe my bags are not gonna fit in the over-head compartments on the train? what would happen if you took the wrong train? does it work with the metro/local trains to travel around the city? Thanks in advance
I think making seat reservations at the ticket machine is a game-changer, and it's super easy too. Check out this guide from JR East to get familiar with the process. https://www.jreast.co.jp/e/downloads/pdf/mv_operation_e.pdf
That's some good information for newcomers in Japan, thx for sharing this and good luck with your channel!
Watched a lot of similar titled videos but yours is actually helpful. So thank you!
Hyperdia has comeback now
Hyperdia discontinued is shocking. Just because you could adjust your settings so you trip is planned with RailPass settings !
So that means JR Pass is now a plastic card like Suica now? Or still paper?
Great to see Hyperdia has returned. Is there a luggage restriction on the Shinkansen?
Also being able to buy JR passes while in Japan — officially only temporary but seems to be getting extended. Costs a little bit more, but much more convenient.
This was the greatest and most informative video I’ve seen all day. Thank you so much 🙏
So you only have one ticket? What if the machine eats your ticket lol
I do want to ask, since Only in Japan made me confused – I’ve bought a 7 day JR pass and I’ve already selected the specific trains that I will need to take, but is it possible to 1. Reserve the tickets a few days in advance (5 days in advance to be specific) 2. Reserve the tickets at stations on different islands? (I will need to reserve a Hokuto limited express seat in advance from Nagoya station, which is where my flight lands)
By the way, the change in plastic bag laws is long overdue, and I’m glad the Japanese government took a stance on that!
If you make your reservations before your trip when you buy it from the official Jr site when you pick up your pass they will also give you all the seat reservation tickets with your Jr pass. As for luggage I booked the back row seats for all my stops which are meant to hold the luggage for people who booked those seats only but being a new system for people coming into japan post pandamic I always had issue with people taking the spot. Was able to work it out but it might be an issue as more people come into japan and don't know the luggage rule with the shinkansain.
Hi! I’m going to Japan for the first time in June 2023. I am a bit confused about what I need in order to get a JR pass. I know I need a temporary visitor stamp in my passport, but do I need to apply for a visa before I go to Japan? Or will I be able to get a worker to put one in my passport once I arrive in Japan? If I am only staying for 3 weeks, will a airport worker put one in my passport, or do I really need to apply for a short term visa? I am super confused.
👍🏾
Buying the Japan rail pass was easy, the hardest part was scoring comikiet tickets but I got them. XD
I cannot believe this popped up as a suggested channel! Our multi generational family of six is traveling to Japan in February. I am going to binge watch everything today! Thank you!!
is it possible to show how to make reservation with the machine?
Some great advice there, thank you. The changes to the JR pass are good to know!
Cheers – useful stuff!
Can you use the JR pass at ticket machines to make reservations for limited express trains too?
