Japan🇯🇵 “Snow Corridor” in the Northern Japanese Alps❄️

At an altitude of 2450 meters above sea level is Murodo, a trolleybus service terminal, known as “the highest station in Japan.” The Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Route, which has a station at its highest point, connects Nagano and Toyama prefectures and requires rail, funicular, bus, trolleybus, and cable car to cross it.

In winter, Murodo is completely hidden under the snow. The largest snow drifts are formed in the valleys located on the western slopes of the mountain range. Every spring, as soon as the road is cleared, Yuki-no-Otani, “great snow canyons”, whose walls reach 10-20 meters in height, form along the sides of the road.

From mid-April to mid-June, the Tateyama-Yuki-no-Otani Hiking Trail opens a section for visitors to approach these gigantic glittering walls 500 meters from Murodo Station.
