I visited Misashima Station, one of the famous tunnel stations.
The station is basically unmanned, and even during major holidays, only two people boarded the train.
Unlike my previous visits to Doai Station, everything was clean and tidy, from the waiting room to the restrooms, as well as the station building.
There are vending machines, so you won’t have trouble finding something to drink, but you can’t use Suica, Felica, or QR code payment.

If you want to visit the tunnel station first, you should go to Misashima Station first because it is relatively stylish, clean, and relaxing for a tunnel station, and unlike Doai Station, not many people go directly to the station by car, and the stairs are not too steep.
There are also displays that show the culture of Misashima, and you can get an idea of what kind of town it is just by being in the station building while waiting for the train.

When the train arrives,
・Announcement in Misashima dialect
・Announcement in Japanese
・Announcement in English

When a train arrives, an announcement in Misashima dialect, an announcement in Japanese, and an announcement in English are played, making it a very unique station.
I would like to visit Misashima Station again, as it is surprisingly within walking distance to the town.

【About Misashima Station】
Misashima Station is located in Tokamachi City, Niigata Prefecture, and is on the Hoku-Hoku line.
The station is the only underground station on the HokuHoku Line and was opened on March 22, 1997.
The station is an underground station with one platform and one track.
It is an unmanned station with a train station certificate issuing machine.
Due to the strong wind pressure generated by passing trains, the platform is separated from the underground passageway by an iron door, and the platform is sealed off except when handling passengers.
The above-ground waiting room is on tatami mats and is air-conditioned with a pot and glasses for hot tea service, a cushion, and a station notebook.
