Watch this video to experience TWO of the world’s most scenic trains in New Zealand: The TranzAlpine and Coastal Pacific on New Zealand’s Stunning South Island! In this New Zealand Travel Guide, we’ll explore New Zealand’s South Island by rail!

The TranzAlpine and Coastal Pacific trains traverse some of the planet’s most unbelievable landscapes. From Greymouth on the rainforested West Coast, we’ll traverse the Southern Alps to Christchurch. From there, we’ll head north toward Wine Country, while hugging the Pacific Coast, watching waves crash and spotting seals, dolphins, and other sea mammals.

The TranzAlpine and Coastal Pacific trains offer some of the most incredible rail adventures possible.

We’ll check out everything onboard, too. Including the café car and its selections of tasty snacks and meals. We’ll fully investigate the open-air observation car on both the TranzAlpine and the Coastal Pacific.

Thankyou for your video – as a kiwi living in Australia it’s nice to see the green green grass of home

  2. This is the last trip I did with my Mother. She had terminal cancer and wanted to say goodbye to her favorite parts of NZ. Home was Rotorua and we set off in Winter .

  3. Thanks jeb for this beautiful video. Really superb and i enjoyed a very lot. Train is really ultimate. If this train has sleeper it will be the really next level.

  5. Jeb, you have a pleasant and comfortable voice and a talent for narration. Suzanne has a sparkly voice and enthusiasm that is infectious. Great duo and couple. I could easily watch longer videos.

  8. Along with the regular sheep on the grassy knolls did you happen to come across new zealand bunnies grazing among those shrubs and bushes, patches of thick grass at almost every twist and turn through this journey?

  9. My wife and I travelled both ways on the Tranzalpine pre-COVID, this brings back fond memories of that trip.

  10. If you want to watch about how the Midland line from Greymouth used to be look up Steam Lives On Kb Country, on Youtube it is 10 minutes long on a number on channels.

  11. The answer to your physics question is NO. Because you are travelling at the same speed as the train, you will continue to move forward in the air and land on the same spot.
