Exploring Old Tokyo | Nihonbashi Ningyocho + Fox Shrines | Virtual Walking Tour

Exploring the old Tokyo from Nihonbashi Ningyocho to Asakusabashi and Inaricho, next to Ueno Park, in this virtual walking tour.

Io Giappone:
00:05 Suitengu shrine
02:19 Ningyocho
The old doll town, so named because it was home to many puppet and doll shop, as theatres were nearby. The area was bombarded during WWII and now no such shops survive. You can still find some traditional houses and shops that were able to maintain an old age aura. Amazake Dori is also here, though you won’t find any amazake here anymore.
02:59 Imahan Sozai Suitengu Station Front (korokke)
03:51 Ningyocho Mechanical Clock Tower – Rakugo Performer
In Rakugo, an actor tells stories on a stage, playing the part of all the characters along with having to memorize each story. Forms of Rakugo have been performed for several centuries in Japan, becoming popular during the Edo period.
05:25 Kakigara Ginza
06:14 Ningyocho Mechanical Clock Tower – Firemen
Firemen were in high consideration in the Edo period, as buildings were made of wood and fires could spread across the city quite fast. Firemen used various acrobatic techniques too, since the buildings were so close and space was narrow.
08:08 Naruto Taiyaki Honpo
Chain store for some yummy break
13:32 Kasama Inari shrine
Part of the Shichifukujin meguri for the Nihonbashi area
20:10 Hamacho Park
30:06 Yanokura Inari Shrine
36:15 Asakusabashi + Kanda River
After Asakusabashi there’s another bridge and then Kanda River flows into Sumida River. Many houseboats are anchored here.
49:45 Kintsuna Inari Shrine
It’s built next to Nippon Express. It is said that it came to be called Kintsuna Inari because it received an oracle to “give a golden rope”. After the Meiji Restoration, the courier wholesaler was integrated into the original land transportation company, and in the Taisho era, the Kanda branch of Nippon Express was placed here, and Kintsuna Inari was also enshrined.
59:55 Satake Shopping Street
01:15:00 Shitaya Shrine
The main god enshrined here is Yamato Takeru. The Inari shrine is also the oldest in Tokyo, and gave the area its name, Inaricho.

I’m just starting with virtual walking in Tokyo and I have limited equipment, but I want to show what I experience with my family back home, so I’m trying my best. I’ll learn and get better.
