Air Canada Trip Report flying from Vienna to San Francisco (via Toronto) onboard one Air Canada Boeing 787-9 and a Boeing 737-8 MAX on a nice winter day.
An average flight onboard the Air Canada Boeing 787 Dreamliner and Boeing 737MAX. Probably the fact that there were lots of clouds didn’t help to get a good mood… but also the B787 cabin didn’t help either. The legroom was on the edge for a long-haul cabin and the windows were dirty.
On top of that, the crew dimmed all the windows without asking or saying anything just after the meal service. In my opinion, that’s probably the most disrespectful thing the cabin crew can do on a Boeing 787. The only reason why they do it is to make the passengers fall asleep (taking no care if they should sleep or not due to the time change) and that way avoid anyone from disturbing them for hours. I knew I shouldn’t have taken a flight in 787 exactly because of this. They didn’t block the windows but they were dimming them all the time, even though many passengers didn’t want their windows to be dimmed.
The onboard service started around 1h after takeoff. There were 2 options: chicken or pasta. Both were extremely simple. A chickpea salad was the starter and a piece of dry cake made the function of dessert. Sadly, I must say this was among the worst food to date on a transatlantic flight. The crew didn’t pass during the next 6h through the cabin with drinks. 1h before landing, that means, 7h after the first tiny meal, they offered a small warm snack.
The positive thing about the first flight was that, surprisingly, we landed well ahead of schedule. I was monitoring the flight punctuality for the last 2 weeks (because of the connecting flight to SFO) and rare was the day when the delay was lower than 1-2 hours. Today, luckily, it was an exception to that. We landed around 20 minutes early after a windy approach.
We had a 3h layover at Toronto airport, before boarding the Air Canada Boeing 737MAX that would take us to San Francisco. The aircraft landed ahead of schedule from its previous destination (Nassau), but we still boarded late and took off with almost 30 minutes delay.
The onboard service on this 5h flight was completely “pay-per-eat”. The menu looked quite nice, with several food options that could be part of a long-haul menu. I bought a 3-Cheese Pizza and a Salad. Soft drinks were complimentary. All were very tasty, especially the salad. I must say as well, that the crew on this second flight was much better than the one on the first one: very polite, engaging with the passengers, walking through the aisle for anything the passengers would need… exactly the opposite from the ones on the Boeing 787.
Due to turbulence during the last 2h of the flight, there was no second service as planned. We landed in San Francisco 10 minutes ahead of schedule after a beautiful approach over the city and the Bay of San Francisco.
Now it’s your turn!
Have you ever flown with Air Canada? Which route? How was the experience? Which model did you fly? Have you ever been in Toronto? Maybe in San Francisco or Vienna? Have you ever flown on the B737MAX or B787? What do you think about the Air Canada service?

The first time I flew with Air Canada was in 2016 on the fifth freedom route from Santiago de Chile to Buenos Aires. The entire experience from the check-in booth to the disembark was the worst. The check-in booths opened 90 minutes past the scheduled time; we waited 45 minutes in the queue after the announcement was made to queue up to board the plane; the ground staff didn't care about it; the rude stewardess refused to serve me coffee because the seat belt lights were on then ignored me when the lights were switched off; I was served the pathetic dish of sliced pineapple from the business class when Air Canada didn't log in my vegetarian meal option; and so forth. A Canadian passenger next to me was embarrassed and felt bad for me that he went to the gallery to fetch coffee for me. Never again with Air Canada!
Nice video! 🙂
Is funny haw today he crew call themselves director of flight manager of flight ? In old days was only purse and the service was excellent ! Now to many directors and managers on flight and people have to serve themself ? Soon the crew will ask the passengers to collect all food plate and rubbish 😂😂😂
Hey @OnBoardHD, I recommend that to travel from Charlotte (North Carolina, USA) to Mumbai (Maharashtra, India) with Lufthansa?
Wow, Air Canada, As a Canadian/Asian and American I like seeing air Canada planes around SF
Enjoyed the 18 hour trip on Air Canada 🇨🇦. Love all of your videos to exciting destinations. Makes me want to fly 🙋🏼♀️👍🏻🇺🇸

Gracias
Also, you can always ring the call bell for extra drinks….they will not refuse you a drink….guarantee it 🇨🇦

I am missed. My favorite channel the program
Muy buen video. Muchas gracias.
Your videos are such a delight to watch. Especially when you ask for a 2nd helping. North American carriers are worst in food service followed closely by the Europeans. Thumbs up for Asian and especially the Middle Eastern carriers for great food service
Abrazos
You poor thing! You must have famished the whole time!! Vienna Airport pioneered and opened the very first supermarket in an airport over 40 years ago, a BILLA. It followed a SPAR and since last month BILLA Corso is now back in the arrival level of the terminal. I always get my sandwiches and snacks for the flight. Air Canada has gone way down in service. In YYZ you saw only part of the US Bound terminal. There are really a lot of shops and 2 very busy Tim Horton's coffee shops.
I sat in 26F as well on C-FSEQ, a different AC MAX 8!
25:04 The FA clearly doesn't know the MAX well enough haha
I didn't even know that they serve pizza on board maybe perhaps I should travel on Air Canada someday
Its not just Air Canada. Canada as a country is really outdated , lack of good service low wages, higher taxes, high cost of living. Its all contributing to this low level.
Great video as always
I am going to ask for more food next time I flight lol
Cheers
Thank you for sharing your long-haul trip. We're you able to go to Star Alliance or Air Canada Lounge in Vienna before boarding to relax before your first flight across the Atlantic? Also, we're you able to get a reservation in Premium Economy because I noticed after hearing a lot of conversations are going on around you!!!!
Can you gon klm a330
Air canada has the worst crew!
Don’t like clapping on a plane ✈️
One advantage of the dimmable windows is that the crew can control it for landing and take-off. But for the rest those windows only have drawbacks.
Por que se evita sobrevolar viena ? 🤔
The remote dimming feature (and the crew being able to block the controls) is the main reason why I avoid flying a B787. It’s a shame as it seems to be a nice plane, but I cannot stand when I book a window seat that I’m unable to control my window shade
AIR Canada Rouge…Toronto to Dublin…never again…legroom was appalling…only suited for short haul.
Impressive and impossible to believe, and sensational, more than l have a dream come true of working in a car dealership,l also have Flightradar 24 to follow.
A really smooth landing|
I used as a kinda tutorial brvause i was thinking of a doing a trip report but didn’t know how thank you! Also awesome video🎉
Nicely done mate 👍
lol the claps people just want to get the hell out 🤣🤣
Clapping on a non middle east flight. Interesting.
A mí me parece incluso demasiada cantidad
