As of May 8, all boarder measures, including provisional measures, to prevent the spread of COVID-19 will be lifted for your entry convenience into Japan. This is a welcome change as most people have been vaccinated and this is just an extra step that is unnecessary at this point.
The prices for the JR Passes are going up “sometime” in October of 2023. No set date has been placed on the change and very few details have been released as of yet. We will see how this plays out as we get closer to the fall and hopefully, as mentioned in the video, more value will be added to the pass to compensate for the substantial price increase.

What do you guys think of the new JR Prices? If they do go through with no additional changes there are always alternative methods of travel however as we approach October they should be releasing more information about "value" being added to the passes to bring them more in line with the new price.
I read somewhere else that the Nozomi was going to be included and when you consider the yen has fallen so much in value to other currencies, the price hike isn't out of the blue. I think a price hike of 70% is too much though and JR's sales of the JR Pass will end up going dramatically down. They will have to provide much more value with discounts to attractions, etc. for visitors to want to purchase it. The yen used to be about ¥10,000 = $100 US and now ¥10,000 = about $75 US, a 25% decrease in spending power abroad for Japan.
