After a few crazy days in Tokyo I took the family to Hakone, Japan for some rest and relaxation in the mountains. When I was looking at a map of the town I saw that there was a rather sizeable lake nearby. A quick trip down and it was clear there were some fish due to the number of fishing boats, tackle, and eager fishermen eager to hit the water. Further research online suggested the lake was holding some big bass and trout, so needless to say I decided to give some shore angling a try. Despite some rough conditions and repeated failures (lost lures, tangles, missed strikes, break-offs, etc) over the course of 3 rough days, eventually, we got some fish!
