We had a great overnight bus journey from Kyoto to Tokyo and after another 2 hour bus ride we were in Kawaguchiko. The only problem was a typhoon had hit. We couldn’t see a thing!
We headed out in the rain and went for a local dish called Hoto. It was homemade udon noodles, pumpkin and other veggies. It was enormous and very tasty.
We decided to make the most of it anyway and do what we could whilst in Kawaguchiko. Climbing Mt Fuji was out of the question so the following day, when the rain had stopped, we found a walking trail and headed out for a day of hiking. The lake itself is very beautiful but it would have been nice to have a glimpse of Mount Fuji.
When all hope was lost, we saw it!! We flew from Tokyo to Hong Kong a few days later and managed to see it from the plane. One day we’re coming back to climb it. It looked spectacular.
