4 Must known facts about Romania:

1 – Romania has the biggest Gothic church
The Black Church of Brașov, the largest Gothic structure between Vienna and Istanbul, is unmatched in Eastern Europe. The walls of the church blackened after being partially devastated by fire in 1689, giving the building its name. Inside, you can see the largest collection of oriental carpets in Europe as well as a wonderful Bucholz organ.

2 – There is an underground glacier
The second-largest subsurface glacier in Europe, the Scărișoara Glacier, can be found beneath the Bihor Mountains. The glacier, which has a volume of 75,000 cubic meters, has been around for more than 3,500 years.

3 – Bucharest is the home of the second largest building in The Palace of Parliament is the second-largest administrative structure in the world, after only the Pentagon. The structure, a representation of Ceaușescu’s megalomania, is 86 meters (282 feet) high, 270 meters (886 feet) broad, and 240 meters (787 feet) long. The monument, which is 12 stories tall, has 1,100 rooms. It is also the world’s heaviest building, per Guinness World Records.

4 – Romania has its own Mount Rushmore
The statue of Decebal, a former monarch of Dacia and an ancestor of the Romanians, is carved into the stone along the banks of the Danube. The monument is 55 meters (180 feet) tall, making it the highest stone sculpture in all of Europe. It was created by 12 alpinist-sculptors over the course of ten years.
