I’ve been riding coasters for 25 years but there are some that shut down before I was able to get there. These are the 15 best defunct coasters I never got to ride.

What a superb video! I'm fortunate to have ridden most defunct wood coasters of the 80s. Idora Wildcat was unreal. Rib-cracking laterals, out of control speed & ejector airtime with a stationary grab bar. Mr. Twister kicked ass and Wildcat was superb and they intertwined. Mtn. Flyer is a favorite of mine with insane airtime & a collapsing turnaround that was almost as good as Idora Wildcat's second turn. Zingo was magnificent, smooth & constantly floating out of your seat. Great you mentioned my all-time favorite roller coaster, far better than anything I've ridden, defunct or running, is Texas Cyclone before it began getting neutered, starting in 85 with Morgan trains. Nothing can touch it. I rode it hundreds of times with 4 bench PTCs & buzz bars. Local enthusiast events there yearly featured comparisons of bruises and occasional cracked ribs. Many that rode it pre-85 will likely say it's the ultimate roller coaster.
I wish I had the opportunity to ride The Texas Cyclone. Never made it to Astroland, but if I did ride it, I would have wanted to experience it with the original 4 bench 3 car PTC Trains,or even the later 3 bench 4 car PTC Trains. Either way, It looked to be an Awesome Rollercoaster!!🎢
I wish I could have ridden Volcano at KD
Got to ride The Ultimate, original Dodonpa en Hypersonci XLC. All three were just insane rides.
The ultimate was extremely rough in some places, but pure insanity going through the woods.
Dodonpa simply had the best launch in the world and that top hat gave you extreme ejector airtime (and possibly a hernia when going up the top hat due to the extreme forces).
Hypersonic XLC, I got to ride in 2007. I remember me and my friends just standing in awe when looking at the launch. We came from Cedar Point and were impressed by TTD. Then we saw this thing and didn't think much of it, until we saw that insanely short and forceful launch. I had more nerves for Hypersonic XLC than for TTD to be honest. Crazy part was that everybody on the internet said the ride was extremely rough, but our rides that day were surprisingly smooth. I really liked it. Too bad both S&S airthrust coasters are defunct. Crazy to see those trains with rubber Pirelli tires 😄
Zingo was okay. More airtime than Wildcat at Frontier City, but not as interesting of a layout. Texas Cyclone was AWESOME. As was Zonga, which I caught on one of like eight days it was ever open as Taz's Texas Tornado.
How does my man know what I used to build in Tpt2, Roblox?
I’ve been on Avalanche! It was a good one, I think I rode it like, five or six times in one day.
I can claim credit for one of these: Ultra Twister, when it was at SFGA. I was rather young back then and don't remember much, but it was a solid ride.
I also got on at least one side of "Chiller" (I forget which by now), and while I never rode "Bat", I did ride "Big Bad Wolf", the predecessor to Verbolten.
The fact we had hypersonic XLC volcano and flight of fear in the same park at the same time is WILD
I actually got to ride Avalanche in 2012- I remember it being fucking crazy. At the time I still had a fear of heights, and at the time, I though “less than 100 ft? that works for me” and that shit was CRAZY. I remember it just didn’t stop and was out of control
#15. “Opened in 1990”. “This was somewhat popular in the 80’s”. Oookay.
Out of all the defunct coasters, the only one I wished to ride was Volcano. I haven't been to Kings Dominion since the 90s when it was owned by Paramount. The only coaster I could do at the time is now called Woodstock Express. I will be at Kings Dominion next week and if Volcano still existed, I would have gone to Volcano first.
I went to Wisconsin Dells and actually saw Avalanche after it closed in 2018. The track was already in the process of being removed.
Mindbender in west edmonton mall is pretty much on point in Tylers' review. that first drop was amazing
It was really cool to see you talk about Youngstown as I live in a suburb about 20 minutes away, I've driven past the grounds many times. Unfortunately the park was struggling heavily economically, as was the entire city of Youngstown. It was a huge steel producing city, but when that fell so did the town. With less people and less money, the park suffered. It was probably going to close even if the fire didnt happen, in fact there's some conspiracy theories that it was intentional for insurance money.
There's a family dedicated to preserving the history of the park and have turned their garage into a museum that opens once or twice per year. They have trains for both Wildcat and Jack Rabbit. It's something really cool to check out if for some strange reason you happen to be in Youngstown at the right time.
Unfortunately, I rode Dachenfyre in 1997 at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. The ride had been modified to a point where it lurched at breaking stations causing extreme neck and back pain after gaining speed and starting to ride like a fast coaster with good airtime. Since then, I have refused to set foot on ANY Arrow designed coaster from that era including Viper at Six Flags Magic Mountain. Arrow, No Thanks. It's been 26 years and my neck still hurts at the mention of that whip lash, rough coaster. Busch Gardens couldn't dismantle and melt it down fast enough for me! I
Do you have any timeframe on when you’re going to KI? I got a gold pass and it would be cool to meet you.
I rock climb and jump out of planes to get that rush. A jump out of a plane is about the price as a day at a park if not cheaper.
What is the coaster is at 0:05?
My dad visited Six Flags Astroworld in 1995. I wonder if he remembers riding the Texas Cyclone, Ultra Twister, Viper, and whatever other roller coasters they had at that park at that time. I know he remembers riding the Batman stand-up roller coaster for sure. Unfortunately, my mother was with him at the park but she never got to ride anything they had because she was pregnant with me. So that makes it my fault if you think about it.😭
Missed DF and Volcano by mere weeks. Many of The rest I missed because of saying, "maybe next year." I no longer say that and just take the trip.
Mindbender in Edmonton Alberta was an amazing coaster. It’s in my home park and really hooked me as a coaster enthusiast. Sad you missed it. Maybe we will get something new and cool as you can come visit and try it. I’ll happily take you.
I used to live in Tulsa and I remember Zingo was the first ever wooden coaster that I ever rode.
But one defunct coaster that you may have rode or not is The Orient Express at Worlds of Fun in Kansas City. It was one of two coasters that had interlocking loops.
Hypersonic was pretty much like the rest of them. Bat was an absolute blast — the closest thing to flying. The front car was a must. As for the 1946 Cycleone, I never rode it but I always felt that the moderne costers don;t take advantage of twists and turns that are available toward the end — instead they"brake " the ride to slow it down.
“But it exploded-“ IM SORRY YOU WANTED TO RIDE A COASTER THAT BLEW UP??
As a local, 12:33 the chiller was epic. Once they did away with the OTSR and added lap bars. Wheeww 🤌🏻
ITS RELEASE DAY GUYS
Yo dat it. I gotta drive out to Valencia CA before Viper is gone. I be one of the rare few without a front licence plate in the whole parking lot.
Well you can go on amercian drier looping which is similar to mindbender
"There's one thing we coaster enthusiats don't have, a Time Machine."

We no longer have Mindbender, but at least we have American Drier Looping.
My biggest mistake is not riding Top Thrill Dragster when I was at Cedar Point in 2021. I saw it running, and stupidly didn't get in line for it. Now I'll never get to ride it.
Eagle Fortress for me. The setting and swing looked amazing.
I got to ride the Ultra Twister when they had one at Great Adventure.
Ultratwister was my dad's favorite coaster back when Astroworld was running. He was the only one in the family brave enough to ride.
Hypersonic XL 2000 I was at Kings Dominion in 2002 i think it was and it was down the day we were there. I saw it testing…but never had a chance to ride it.
i was able to ride 3 of the rides on your list, Ultra Twister and texas cyclone at Astroworld, and the bat at kings island
I was fortunate enough to ride Ultra Twister at Astroworld. It's one of my all-time favorite coasters. There was NOTHING else even remotely like it at the time. Super fun! I also rode my first & only suspended coaster on the same trip.
Ones I wish I'd gotten the chance to ride: Big Bad Wolf, Volcano, & Roller Soaker (just b/c I love the idea of the coaster / water ride combo).
I rode the cyclone at astroworld but I barely remember it. I was only 9 or 10 lol.
For me, the massive woodies that were at Saltair have to be tied for number one. Those look like something almost otherworldy, when you think about when they were built and their setting on the Great Salt Lake.
2. Vortex Kings Island
3. Eagle’s Fortress
4. Big Bad Wolf
5. Firehawk Kings Island
6. Chaos (Opryland)
7. Greezed Lightnin’ (SFKK)
8. Zonga/Taz’s Texas Tornado
9. Thunder Road (Carowinds)
10. The Ultimate
11. High Frolics (that triple down looks i credible)
12. Orphan Rocker
13. Moonsault Scramble
14. Ravine Flyer
15. Montana Russa (The one that last ran in 2019 and was demolished in Mexico City in 2021).
Honorable mention for my mom
1. Original Bat at Kings Island. She went multiple times a year every year it was open, but never got to ride it.
