Megane Bashi – one of Nagasaki’s historical bridges over the Nakashima River going back to 1634 and built by by the 2nd generation Chinese monk Mokusunyoujo of Kofukuji Temple. It’s called Megane Bashi or the Spectacles Bridge since the water’s reflection makes it look like a pair of eyeglasses. It’s also one of the 3 most famous bridges in Japan, and the oldest stone arch bridge. No, it’s not London Bridge but worth a look if you are passing by – and few tourists ever take notice. It’s a short walk from the Nigiwaibashi streetcar stop.
