JAPAN TRAVEL: FURUKAWA! Day 18

Our last day travelling around Japan before heading back to Tokyo! And, after much discussion and retrospective conversations, we think it might have been our most favourite day.

We headed out to the little village of Furukawa that was in the throes of celebrating its Spring festival – the Matsuri. We could only enjoy the daytime party as we weren’t staying in the village; but want we did see made us fall in love with the place and the people.

Gilded floats, lion dancers, free sake from a community centre, streets stalls selling food – fried chicken, rolled up okonomyaki, sausages, wagyu on a sticks – pretty streets and thousands of lanterns. Furukawa really stole our hearts.

On April 19 and 20 this little mountain-clad village is the ONLY place I want to be in Japan.
