The second element of the toponym, which in the past was *Rocca d’Antico*, could derive from the Latin word “Anticus”, ‘front’, ‘that stands in front’.
The first evidence of the existence of Roccantica dates back to 792 AD: Palombo son of Rattone donates a portion of the church of S. Valentino located on the *Fundo Antiqum* to the Farfa Abbey.
In 840 the town entered into full possession of the Abbey of Farfa and, under the pressure of the Saracen raids, the village was………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

  1. Buona sera, Ric! I'm watching this while at work because I'm so excited to be in Italy in a few weeks. Italy has hundreds if not thousands of these little towns, and they're all so beautiful. If I ever had the chance to move there I would have the hardest time to find a town to settle in. Thank you so much for providing great video all the time!

  2. Buona serra Riccardo⚘️🙋‍♀️

  4. Love these small and quiet villages like this. Of course they look better on a sunny day. So peaceful and quiet. I bet the crime rate is zero. Does this part of Italy, get a lot of snow in the winter ? Grazie. Break at end ,we'll deserved. Look forward to your next walk. 🇮🇹

  5. Thank you so much for all the videos these past three years.
You have made our lives better.

  6. Beautiful small village.
    Very quiet and peaceful.
Always enjoyed the great tour. Thank you and see you next Friday.

  7. "Roccaantica" probably just means "ancient fortress" -as the word "rocca" refers to a fortress = usually on a hill.

  8. question: with the town's 1500 year history, along with other towns you have filmed. , i am fascinated by the walkways, stairs and rubble walls and the well laid walls. do you know whether the town keeps the same building patterns and restores them periodically or are the well kept architectural features relatively new. ? they look old. are the kept up from the old or new because of the drainage in the walkways etc. i do see the utility hook ups on the walls. just wondering how the town copes with time in staying the same or changing? any thought?

  9. Another charming village explored !! Really it's so beautiful and picturesque.. I love the surroundings and outskirts of these villages they are so green and lushy and ofcourse the beautiful houses with lovely stone worked streets and alleys…overall a nice walk tour at the weekend…Have a happy weekend my dear friend Ric !! CIAO

  13. Another charming town in central Italy. In this one a different approach, you filmed it early Saturday morning when there are almost no people outside. Nevertheless still enjoyable, surrounded with greenery mountains and a very hilly tow.. Thanks for tour, looking forward to next one.

  14. Oi, Ric!

  15. Back again with all of you, though i still have to watch a lot of videos I have not been able to watch until now because of my job. I have been very, very busy
    . I
Thanks a lot for all your efforts for showing us all these wonderful videos

  16. Charming little town with beautiful greenery surroundings. Another amazing town in Italy. Thanks for the tour. It's a busy week, will catch up your last week walk:)

Bella giornata, benedetto Sole.

  18. Beautiful town , nice green surroundings 😊😊 it's terrible weather in my city , 38 °C and while facing this and
Watching these hill side towns is always pleasant . Best wishes and greetings . Background music in drone view is wonderful as always .

  20. Watching this from a beautiful city (not naming it, but it's not in Italy) with grand buildings. But I still am drawn to these small unknown Italian towns with their up and down small lanes. They have so much character. And little touches like the plants and cute nativity scenes and Madonnas make it more special. Just gazing out to the green countryside is also special. So Riccardo, thanks again for sharing your walks 🤗🙏
