  1. Ueno is so good it just has everything and for me it has great memories of my first trip seeing the lotus in July

  2. Yes! Ueno's great. So much history. The Shinobazu Pond (where Follow the Sun saw the lotus) was a part of Tokyo Bay back in the 5th century. At least one of the hills in the area is thought to be a burial mound from around that time. There's an eel restaurant that's been going for around 300 years. After walking around the area I like to visit Yushima shrine then head up the slope (MuenZaka) to Tokyo University and head to Sanshiro Pond. Occasionally there is a turtle that needs rescuing, but the carp are always on show. But wherever you go in Tokyo, it's always amazing to remember that the virtually the whole city was obliterated not once, but twice in the 20th Century. First by the Great Kanto Earthquake and again in WW2.
