I spent several nights at the Iwanai Kogen Hotel, which is walking distance from both a ski resort, and the Iwanai Kogen Brewery. You can find it on Tripadviser, Booking.com, Agoda, etc. etc. Here’s a google link: https://goo.gl/maps/SRLdtLz89TjxzBqZ8

  1. So you been in my town wow and I also got told that Iwanai was the first palce where Asparagus was cultivated. come for a climb next time

  2. Love your videos man!

Always puts me in such a nice and relaxed mood. Perfect for chilling to after having a tough day at work.

    Cheers!

  3. Someday i will travel to Hokkaido and visit that place! I've only been to Tokyo but there are so many so many places to visit!

  4. What an intriguing little town! And a variety of wild hops!? That’s fascinating! Thank you for another great little adventure!

  5. Hokkaido and Tohoku (well back to Dewa and Mutsu) have so much history, but you need to scratch below the surface to find… but Iwanai Musts Bay and thevwest coast off Hirosaki are ancient ports… my time exploring there road signs were in Russian, Chinese and Japanese around southern Hokkaido.

  6. As a former beer drinker (boo to gluten allergies!), love these videos. Are there any comparable breweries in Japan similar to Wisconsin's beloved New Glarus?

  7. Japan's craft beer quality is on par with anywhere now, in my humble opinion – being from Wisconsin and having lived in the Pacific Northwest for years. Getting your hands on local beer is the issue though as distribution appears to be a problem, so often one has to go to an area to be able to drink the bounty. Ibaraki alone has dozens of craft breweries now, but very few are available even in Tokyo. Not a bad thing perhaps.

  8. Visited the Sapporo brewery when I was up there for the Winter Festival some years back. Pretty interesting.

  9. Looks promising. When we were in your neck of the woods in Iwate in December I enjoyed a couple bottles of your recommended Baeren Brewery which were quite tasty. For me the real value proposition is sake. So following Japanese tradition I suggest a first round of 生ビール followed by the appropriate amount of 日本酒. 🍻

  10. Very interesting video thanks Quinlan. I do enjoy your informative videos and learning about Japan history.

  11. Cool little town, I really like the design of the brewery building, it fits so nicely into that snowy landscape (as an aside your red coat looked great against that backdrop too!) The shop was so cute too. It's so fun to see these little places, off the beaten track so to speak and yet so full of history. Thanks as always for taking us along and sharing these places with us.

  12. This beer history is SO interesting and quirky for the country and area. Thanks so much!
