Yomitan is an village in an attractive semi-rural area near Kadena Airbase north of Naha. The village that has preserved Okinawa traditional pottery styles through support for its potter’s workshops and kilns. The Japan Tourist web site, says there are 45 potters active in the area. So there are working potteries and their shops at every turn. There is a huge range of traditional and artistic pieces to suit every budget and taste, and the costs are generally less expensive than found in the stores in Tsubo Street in downtown Naha. The impressive thing in the village is the number of hill climbing kilns (noborigama) that are still regularly fired several times a year. (Oops I said once, my bad) Anyone with an interest in traditional pottery will find the area fascinating.

Most stores are Yen Only!!
