We traveled out of Tokyo up to Aizu to try out some pretty special soba. Question is: if they don’t give you any chopsticks or forks, how are you supposed to eat them?

i always cut things with chopsticks by sliding them opposite each other so it pinches the two sides apart. cuts pretty well.
We are on the same page!
What Simin said: "Why does this taste like Grandma's love??"
What I heard: "Why?? My Grandmother's POLISH! She doesn't even KNOW WHAT MOCHI IS!!!!!!!!"
Tempura manjyuu, zunda mochi, any miso-dengaku (grilled in “irori”), yubeshi.
I know it's way too late to make this comment, but… that is a freaking LEEK, people, not an onion! Sorry, but the subtle, sweet and modest leek gets so overlooked by it's bombastic, loud and tangy cousin… I… I… LEEK, people.
When Martina is making Dan recite Harry Potter LOOOOL
Simon, Martina, Dan, since you are in Japan, the magical school you are closest to, according to Rowling's extensive lore on Pottermore, is Mahoutokoro. Their Quidditch team is said to have learned (and kicked ass in) the sport from British wizards, much to the latter's regret centuries later. Even still, train travel is my favorite way to travel because of how relaxing and scenic it is, even when there are delays. The Hogwarts Express was one of the fictional trains that helped me fall in love with real ones.
Eating soba with a sweet leek… not the most conventional way to eat noodles, but definitely worth it for the experience. And all of that (pre)Edo architecture… I think I might cry I'm so amazed.
1:13 like watching anime where bunch of friends going to the Onsen on holidays
Sharla (from Sharla in Japan) was just talking about how every part of Japan has an ingredient they are known for that they put in a lot of their dishes. You guys should do an educational collab with her and try specialized dishes from rural parts of Japan. 😀
That closeup shot of Simon shoveling soba into his mouth with a leek is sooo awe inspiring
so many unintentional "that's what she said" jokes were made on this day…
Martina looked so cute and pretty 😍😍
Traveling 5 hours just for a special meal…yep, you are my people. 😁
