Discovering the epic battle sites on Guadalcanal, Salomon islands. Here, far away from both Japan and the USA the two heavyweight powers in the war of the Pacific threw everything they had at each other: on land, in the air and at sea. The hills, rivers and waters of the islands were in 1942 covered in blood and became a turning point in the war in the Pacific, (just like Stalingrad would be on the European theatre). After holding the lines at Bloody ridge, Alligator creek and in the Coral sea, from then on Japan would be on the defensive all the way to Hiroshima three years later.
