  1. Terrible news. This will really hurt the small towns and lesser know places. Ive been to countless cool places on a whim depending on weather and crowds. This will force all the people to stay in already crowded spots. Hopefully they will reconsider. Im going to tokyo tomorrow and plan on using that pass until I pass out from exhaustion 😁🤙🏽. Keep up videos. Talk to the PM please and tell him no good.

  2. Thanks, Lisa for keeping everyone informed. We are traveling to Japan from early November to mid-December but intend to include Hiroshima, Kyoto, Osaka, Tokyo, Nikko, and Sapporo in our travels so the JR pass will still be a fairly good value. Love the videos

  3. Oh have you been to ashikaga flower park? That wisteria tree is high on my list. Im going Monday.

  4. Thanks for the video ! We are doing: Tokyo-Shizuoka-Kyoto-Osaka- Nara-Hiroshima- Tokyo.
Still worth getting JR Pass in November ?
Trip spread out in 17 days

  5. I love your videos and content! We are saving up to book a trip next June but we will be a group of 5, made up of two parents, two teen girls and one friend in her 20s. We will be on a budget and would love to find more hotels and ryokan with family style onsens. We plan on seeing Tokyo, Disney and we would like one other location that offers more traditional offerings and maybe even farms or horses. Do you have any recommendations for us? Thanks!

  6. That's insane. I'm going for 15 days mid October. Really glad it's before this outrageous price increase.

  7. The pass hasn't risen in cost for about 10 years so inflation is just catching up. Having the rail pass is convenient and I usually buy the 21 day version. It might be expensive but it saves all the waiting at the Jr counters and is flexible so if for example one Shinkansen looks full you can just wait for the next one. I recently travelled in Europe and the UK and the JR pass will not be that expensive after all.

  8. I personally find the best way to utilize the 7 day pass is to only activate the pass when you're leaving tokyo and spend that week to cover kyoto & osaka.

  9. I've done Tokyo to Himeji/Osaka to Kumamoto to Nagasaki to Oita to Kyoto to Yokohama/Tokyo, then Narita to go home, all in just over a week lol. But I don't linger, or dawdle, I tend to get in and get out fast. But I still enjoy myself. Like you say, everyone has their own style.

  10. Honestly this has put me off the idea of my trip altogether. I had a painstakingly done itinerary based alot on the JR pass and I'm frankly not willing to bother with these multiple regional passes.

  11. we want to travel to japan from september to November. planning to buy a first pass for sep and a second one for mid October.
should be fine if we buy in advance i guess. as far as i know you have 3 months to exchange the pass and then a month for selecting the starting date. so if i buy both in august should be fine

  12. Hi Lisa !!!
Thanks for a great video as always. You’re my go to video for info on our incoming visit to Tokyo and Osaka. We are going there next week. I hope our visit will be a great one.

  13. Do you have a video for traveling to Kyushu? My daughter is going there for a swimming championship. I will be coming again around Aug 2023.

  14. Spot on lisa!! I have a more hectic travel style when visiting Japan but I too prefer IC card, regional passes, budget flights and one way shinkansen when necessary. I dont think putting all your eggs in one basket is a good idea and I think thats the mistake ALOT of first time travelers make when visiting japan, being told to buy JR Pass because it does everything when in actually it has many limitations and with the change in price the money is better spent on a multitude of things.

I keep all my receipts and closely track all my expenses so I know how to get value during my travels. Not everyone does or wants to and thats understandable.

Just hoping people really do their homework on this and I can vouch for you that the info you presented here is very accurate and detailed with what is known today!

  15. OMG 😱. We already booked for 2nd week October for 13 days. Planning Day1-4 inTokyo, Day5-7 Osaka, Day 8-9 Kyoto and Day10-13 back to Tokyo. PLEASE help us with the train route. This is so overwhelming for us.😢

  16. I don't see this move decongesting Tokyo or Osaka. Quite the contrary, people like me who stayed only for 7 days manages to go from Tokyo to Osaka and some cities in between using the 7 day JR Pass.

Now since there is a price increase, the 7 day JR pass is not worth it anymore. Short stay travelers like me will rather stay in one city throughout the visit. The golden route will not be an option anymore unless you stay longer.

  17. I'm visiting in Japan in October. I think Ill Get the JR pass since I can get it in September and trade it in October. That way I can say I rode the shinkansen at least once.

  18. Thank you Liza for another informative vlog…. can we buy the JR pass right now whiile they haven't increase the price and use it in October/November? Thanks once again kawai josei Liza.

  19. I'm traveling from Nagasaki to Tokyo within a 3-week span later this year, and the JR Rail Pass is a must as I'll be frequently using the Shinkansen between cities.

  20. Hi Lisa, I'm in Japan now, just left Tokyo for Osaka
😊 misty but did see Mt. Fuji, quite clearly, it is big. Thank you for all your videos and help. Arigtou
