The Ainu are an indigenous people of Hokkaido, Japan, with their own language and beliefs. They have a strong connection with nature and believe that spirits dwell in all things. The first episode of a series shows traditional Ainu ceremonies taking place in Asahikawa City, Hokkaido. These include the rebuilding of an Ainu house called ‘Cise’ and the ‘Asir Cise Nomi’ ceremony, where life is breathed into the “Cise” through an ancient dance.
