😀 A BIT ABOUT US:
We’re Marianne & Chris, a happily married couple from the UK. Marianne is a living kidney donor to her best friend, and realising that life was for living and never really knowing what’s round the corner – we decided to fulfil our dream of travelling full time.
So in March 2018 after the kids had left home, we sold our belongings, rented our house and moved into our campervan called Trudy. We set off to see the world and after vanlifing around Ireland and Europe, we grabbed our backpacks and spent 5 months exploring Central America.
Feeling like we needed a challenge, we planned the ultimate van life adventure! In Jan 2020 set off to drive around the World from UK to UK. But after arriving in Turkey, covid caught up with us and closed the borders, so we had a wonderful 18 months exploring this special country. Realising we were not going to be able to head further East, we decided to do a handbrake turn and go the other way and shipped our van to the USA.
We hope you enjoy coming with us, and we’ll continue to share our real adventures and hope you feel inspire to step out of your comfort zone and try something new.

Isn’t it just an option to weld that door close. That way it would’t open for sure and you can ship it to Japan? Goodluck.
May be a lock smith could of helped
❤❤
Why is it that everything that can go wrong, will, and always at the worst possible moment? The ex-pawers broke down over and over on their trip home from England to Andalusia, SPAIN and had to wait for weeks for the parts to ship. Meantime they were stuck on the side of the road in VINNIE (their 30-ish yr old van). Such a bummer. Too bad you don't have a Japanese van. Hugs…good luck with all this.
What a Nightmare!! Initially it looked like the door was locked from the inside? The button was down?? So it needs a new door latch then?
Eek feel your nightmare. X
Hope all goes well with the repairs. I don't know if you were supposed to meet up with someone in Japan or if you were going it alone. Either way, I trust that you will make it there soon, and just make the most of the time you remain in North America, whichever country you are in.
Wow! All i can think of is my overwhelming admiration for you both. So resilient, cheerful, unbelievable grit and can do adventurous spirit. I was delighted to know you were safe in England hanging out with family and friends before i watched this episode. Such a roller coaster dealing with that shipping company. So proud to have met you guys. roll on Japan🎉❤🎉
Just remember – there are no accidents in life. Every thing happens for a reason. We just can't see the reason yet. Have faith! Take care, you two! 😘🙏
I think it would have been way better to rent a travel van in Japan. Way too many hassles with an old van. A US couple I follow on YT (We're the Russo); do exactly that. They just traveled to Europe and are renting a travel van in Italy to tour the country. They travel light and very efficient; and, have done this on several faraway trips. Since YT is your business; it is all a tax write-off, at least it is in the US.
Oh snap ! i wish i was there to fix the door. There is a manual release for the faulty mechanism you could have shut the door.
It was lovely to actually meet you, and thank you Marianne for the hug (sorry I got emotional but you are both such an inspiration for us), this is our instagram name so probably a bit confusing 😆
I've been on the edge of my seat for this video. Keeping my fingers and toes crossed for you guys. Don't forget to be in the moment that makes you smile x
While a delay in shipping Trudy to Japan is not what is desired, there's always a reason behind the scenes for a delay or a detour. You may learn why or you may never know, but know one thing you are guided in your steps on this journey by someone who loves you more then you can fathom and desires your journey to be fruitful and blessed beyond your expectations.
I love you both, but I'd never miss a boat for a door lock. I'm afraid, I'm of the "overpower" school of problem solving. First thing that came to my mind was to just Tack Weld the door shut and deal with it in Japan. I suppose that thinking is why I'm still in Ohio.
I see this video was filmed in March of this year.
I hope by now, mid-April, the issues are resolved, and that you are on the way to Japan.
It's an anxious wait for us as well. Fingers crossed… Prayers are with you.( Of course by the time I type and you read things will have already been cleared up. Though it's exciting to wait) 😊
Why on earth did you leave shipping so close to the insurance end etc. Surely you should have been shipping at least a month ago to be safe?

What a mess! Hope it all turns out in your favour.
Good luck Friends!
Life can be so unpredictable! I felt your stress right along with you. I am up here on Vancouver Island, and if you need to ship from here, c'mon over. I'll show you my freshly finished short bus skoolie build. Cheers.

So sorry you're going through these hurdles right now, even so Chris and Marianne, you guys are an absolute beacon of light! Love following your adventures. Fingers crossed making it to Japan becomes a lot more plain sailing from here on. We're vanlifing here in Japan and would love to buy you both a well deserved drink when you make it here!
You got to bounce. I’ve been around the world. A few times. I always had plans ABC. If I got to C. I bounce. Sleep on it. Try a new angle. Always made it. Had done month long layovers a few times. Mom and dad told me I went ‘native’ a few times. If I hadn’t had the wanderlust imbedded in me by mom. If I hadn’t been turned loose at 14 to travel the tri state area. I never would have done it. I am older now. Plans are afoot. Wish we had YouTube in the day
🙏here's to your next step. <3
I have just watched your latest video. I really feel for you guys. Hopefully you won’t have many more holdups. I really don’t know how marriane stays soooo calm. Good luck from Northern Ireland.
OH my! I just saw this. I was a nervous wreck just watching it. I can't imagine your stress. You guys are amazing. You will figure this out and later laugh over the memories.

My best wishes for you to get this sorted it out. It is stressful indeed but here we are all wishing you the best that things keep moving along with as little as possible obstacles.
What a palava!! Problem solving in action! You'll be ready for anything after this.
Half the people in the US drive without insurance anyways, so you’ll be fine. Just plod on. Head up into the Sierras or over to western AZ and lay low until shipping.
Came here after watching grumpy dad, subbed, and looking forward to catching up x
Your going to South East Asia on next 8 months but not in my country , sad.😢
