After a visit to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, visitors go down Matsubara Dori, a dense pedestrian shopping street in Kyoto. The street is lined with traditional wooden shops selling snacks, green tea and souvenirs. The narrow street is great not only for shopping but people watching as well. Men and women dressed in colorful kimonos parade up and down the street. Two of Kyoto’s most attractive streets nearby are Sannen-zaka and Ninen-zaka. Lined with beautifully restored traditional shophouses, it’s here that you are most likely to imagine what old Kyoto looked like.
