As a fan of Makoto Shinkai’s “5 Centimetres Per Second”, I decided to go on a location hunt while in Japan to see what the real life spots were like and how they compare to the movie.

The local areas themselves were quite interesting to explore too.

Maps, directions and a more detailed photo version can be found on my blog. Note it’s not all 5cm but most of it is.

  1. Have been reading about your Japan Trip on your blog, so happy to find so many Nerd insights. Really liked the 5cm tour 🙂 Hope you checked out some Book-Offs? So cheap

  2. Did not know about the Harajuku location. Nice find.

I also visited all these locations including the convenience store Takaki walks into & southern terrace where Akari meets her partner and walks away near the end of the 3rd chapter.
