Hello! It’s Captain Martina of the King Kogi Airship. This is the first video in a series of Japan Travel Guide videos.
I have years of experience with travel in Japan, and I just want to start sharing it all. I’ve been living in Asia since 2008, and I frequently visited Japan as a tourist while living in Korea, so I’ve had the experience of visiting Japan as a tourist.
In 2016, I moved from Korea to Japan and spent a lot of time traveling around Japan for work, visiting friends, and vacation. I can confidently say that from my own experiences and all the stories I’ve heard from friends, I can share a ton of information to help make your trip to Japan as smooth as possible!

I'd like to know how to pick a good location to stay near 'the best' shinkansen train stop so I can do day trips to somewhere different every day to explore the country and have the appartment as a home base, also I hear the JR rail pass is going up in price soon
I'm planning a Japan trip for this fall. My first time back in years (thanks COVID) and traveling with someone who has never been before. The hotel-related things we're most concerned about are: Will the beds be hard as a rock, and will the room smell like cigarettes?
Also debating, if I want to bring back a bunch of stuff.. do I pay the airline $100 to have a second checked bag, or should I try to go to the post office and mail my treasures back to America?
Do you still need to show a negative COVID test before traveling to Japan and where are you allowed not wearing masks like restaurants only?
I choose airbnb because they tend to have less bugs. I know japan (especially rurally) has roaches. Is there anything we need to look out for concerning bed bugs? Is it a huge problem there?
Are there good salad places in Tokyo.
AirBnB is good if you’re traveling with family you can rent the house. The apartments are hit and miss based on cultural differences what is considered normal amount of noise at night can be different.
By the time I get to travel again, I'm gonna be such a pro at it 😂😂
Hi Martina! Thank you so much for making this video! I have an AirBNB related question. I remember a few years ago some law was passed in Japan that impacted AirBNBs had to be run and there were AirBNBs getting shut down, travelers were having their reservations canceled super last minute…or something? Is it safe to assume this is not as much of a problem anymore?
that noise control alarm is so needed man!
As long as I am safe I don't care the vibes or the atmosphere.unlike in western country or latin country I am not safe any moment the owner knock on your door telling you to vacant the place with out notice or someone knocking and forcing to open your door.besides Japan Airbnb is clean.
There were a lot of things that never occurred to me to think about if I traveled to Japan. Like the hill situation. I don't think most of the videos I watch ever really showed hills in Tokyo so I just assumed it was pretty flat. Where you get the cool necklace.
what the heck, I am literally in the process of planning a trip (my first solo holiday!) to Japan and this pops up from one of my favourite creators??
heck yesss ❤❤ thank you, Martina!
Can’t get behind supporting Airbnb due to their condoning human right violations in occupied lands.
I'm going to Tokyo in October but I'm having trouble finding a accessible accommodation because I need a roll in shower due to being in a wheelchair, do you have any recommendations?
Thank you for making this! All your videos about Korea back in the day really helped me have confidence to travel there for the first time. Looking forward to my first trip to Japan in the future! 😍
Hey Martina! 👋 Could you do a video about Ridesharing vs. Taxi vs. riding Godzilla or anything Japanese I don’t know about (baggage conveyance services?) for private transportation. General costs and etiquette would be awesome! Thank you!
Great Video and EXCELLENT Tips! Thanks!
Airbnb with a washer was.. amazing! Nothing like packing clean clothes to return home.
So helpful!! Also your makeup is so beautiful in this video! 😍
OMG can’t wait to be there but really want to follow the recicling rules! It will be 🤯😂
Is it just me, or are Airbnb prices in and around Tokyo pretty much the same as staying at a hotel? 😵
Hey yeah, lemme just stop paying rent and eating for 2 years to afford to travel.
My partner and I are planning on going to Japan for a week and a half in November, what cities/regions would you say are a must see?
I went to Tokyo in 2019 and stayed in a Air b&b in Hatagaya which was the nicest area. It was very residential with local cafes and restaurants that were fantastic. Would 100% recommend over a hotel. Saved SO much money. It was definitely the first type, super basic but it was really cosy and comfortable. My 6”0 parter struggled in the shower but apart from that the bed was HUGE and severed it’s purpose of just being a base camp at night
I love that you mention accessibility and that the terrain can be rough. I'm an off-on wheelchair user depending on the day/I can't walk super long distances. It's my dream to visit Japan but I've been worried I may struggle getting around. From what I've seen it doesn't look like many places are the most accessible. I'd love to see more videos around accessibly in Japan if that's a topic you're comfortable to dive deeper into.
I’d love a rundown on short-term transport options, like there are local train passes, JR passes, how do we make sense of it all?
Thank you for discussing noise levels and accessibility! I'm a light sleeper and very sensitive to noise and my experience can absolutely be ruined for me if my apartment stay is not quiet.
I will be going this summer! Are there any tips for what I should be preparing in advance? I am worried that I should be booking places and tickets in advance.
The number of stovetops/hubs is such a good tip/guide!! It's kinda like one per person I think
u hv the best timing i really needed this video!!
I would love a suggested neighborhood to stay in as a visitor. The out of area districts that are fun but you don’t know they exist. I would love to stay in a more residential area near transit to get into Tokyo and such. Thanks Martina, you always make gems… you are a gem
Had some great airbnb stays in the past in jp, I love staying in less touristy places, exploring the local neighbourhood and like Martina said feeling more apart of the community!
Yes for this series!
I would love an episode on what different regions of Japan has to offer so you can plan your trip accordingly
Thank you for mentioning accessibility! Love how you incorporate it into your videos as a normal thing to think about. Maybe a video on the most accessible places you've encountered so far.
Hi Martina!! Thank you so much for this insight!! My friends and I are planning a trip to Japan soon, would love to know more about transport within the city / getting from one city to another? If you have some tips on how to do them on budget >.< since they are increasing the prices of JR pass soon. Thank you!!!! (also I really love all these videos you've been doing ❤❤ so good to see you go on your little adventures~)
How to book good Ryokans. We‘re travelling to Japan for the second time and it’s always so weird on how to book them. Often you can only book like 2 months in advance? Or you can only book on their Japanese website?
Thank you for this video! Very helpful! I would love videos on tattoo friendly onsen, beaches, ryokan, etc around Tokyo and elsewhere. Or how to find them. Especially for bigger tattoos not easily covered ones.
