Holy Resurrection Cathedral in Tokyo, Japan – the Orthodox church of the Holy Resurrection in Tokyo, Japan. Let’s travel to Japan and let’s visit The Holy Resurrection Cathedral in Chiyoda, Tokyo, which is the main cathedral of the Japanese Orthodox Church. The Orthodox Church in Japan (or the Orthodox Church of Japan) is an autonomous Orthodox Church within the jurisdiction of the Moscow Patriarchate.
The founder of the Japanese Orthodox Church Ivan Dmitrievich Kasatkin (1836-1912), later St. Nicholas of Japan, was an archbishop who devoted himself to improving Japanese-Russian relations during the Meiji period. He selected the location for The Holy Resurrection Cathedral on the hill at Kanda Surugadai. The site is on a height that overlooked the Imperial Palace. Today it is hidden among the many tall buildings erected since the 1960s.

  1. There are plenty of Orthodox Churches in Japan. They are under the Archbishop of Tokyo, who is a bishop of the ROC.

  2. I must say it surprising to see how much architecture from the late antiquity you can still find preserved in Japan.
