Join me on a winter photography shoot in remote Wakkanai, Japan’s most northerly city, on island of Hokkaido. Landscape photographer Michael Kenna came here for minimalist photos of fish drying racks. But there’s more to Wakkanai than fish drying racks. This extraordinary location has great photo potential, so whether you’re a beginner or an experienced photographer, there’s something here for you. So grab your camera and join me for a winter wonderland adventure!

Whether you are planning to travel to Japan, or just enjoy some virtual travel, you have come to the right place. Japan Photo Explore is a series of travel and photography videos that show you some amazing places to visit and photograph.

Hi, my name’s Nick Pitsas. I am a photographer and video producer and I’ve been traveling to Japan since 2009, including five trips in winter, so if you have any questions about travel and photography in Japan, I’m happy to try to answer them. I look forward to your comments and questions. More videos are coming so if you’d like to see them, please click the notifications button so that you’ll know when new videos are uploaded.

For all the ground photography I used a Fujifilm X-T4 camera body with a Fujifilm XF.16-55mm f/2.8 and a Fujifilm XF. 50-140 f/2.8 lens. For the aerial video and photography I use a DJI Mavic Air 2.
