The Old Town Square is Prague’s oldest and most important square. It is surrounded by historical buildings such as the Old Town City Hall with the famous Astronomical Clock, the imposing St. Nicholas Church and Church of Our Lady before Tyn, and many houses and palaces of various architectural styles and colorful history. It has been a center of Prague’s Old Town since the middle ages when it was a marketplace crossing European merchants’ roads. The first houses were built around the Old Town Square in the 12 and 13 centuries. Some present homes still have Romanesque or Gothic foundations, basements, or ground floors. The Old Town City Hall was built in the 14 century and the Church of Our Lady before Tyn a little later. The Old Town Square became Prague Old Town’s economic and political center.

Franciscan Gardens is a unique natural oasis in the city centre and is furnished with several benches spanning metal arches laden with roses in the summer. Lawn areas are separated by low-yew hedges. The garden is completed with several exciting sculptures, fountains, a gazebo, a playground, fruit trees, and herb beds, which harken back to the former owners, the Carmelites and the Franciscans, who once grew herbs and spices here. A small garden by the Church of Virgin Mary of the Snow between the squares Václavské náměstí and Jungmannovo náměstí has initially been a much greater medieval garden of the Carmelite Monastery after 1348 within the framework of the early development of the New Town (Nové město). Since 1604 it has already been the property of the Order of the Discalced Franciscans, who have restored it several times. The garden had a vital utility function with herbal, flower, vegetable beds and fruit trees; the Franciscans grew spices here. When the monastery and the neighbouring church were plundered by the Prague scum and country robber gangs, it was re-established in the 18th century. The central pavilion was renewed with a ceiling decorated with frescoes realized by monk Benedict. There used to be a summer refectory in the western wing, and the monastery pharmacy and a well were trenched by the Northern wall. Later on, a decorative fountain was built with statues of the saints.

  1. Pražský orloj stál kameře jen za letmé boční švenknutí? Neskutečné ignorantství… Ale svět se točí dál.

  5. When we all give the power

    We all give the best

    Every minute of an hour

    Don't think about a rest

Then you all get the power

    You all get the best

    When everyone gives everything

    And every song everybody sings

    Then it's life

    Live is life

    Live is life

    Live

Live is life, when we all feel the power

Live is life, come on stand up and dance

Live is life, when the feeling of the people

Live is life, is the feeling of the band, yeah

When we all give the power

    We all give the best

    Every minute of an hour

    Don't think about a rest

Then you all get the power

    You all get the best

And everyone gives everything and every song

    Everybody sings

    Then it's life

    Live is life

    Live

    Live is life

    Live

    Live Is life

    Live

    Live Is life

And you call when it's over

    You call it should last

    Every minute of the future

Is a memory of the past

'Cause we all gave the power

    We all gave the best

And everyone gave everything and every song

    Everybody sang

    Live is life
