One of the most beautiful cherry blossom viewing spots in Kyoto
This 2-kilometer walkway between Ginkakuji Temple and Nanzenji Temple is named after the early 20th century philosopher and Kyoto University professor “Kitaro Nishida” who used to walk this path every morning to indulge in his thoughts. The canal that runs along the side of the path is a waterway drawn from Lake Biwa, the largest lake in Japan. The Shirakawa River that flows nearby flows from north to south according to its elevation, while the artificially created waterway flows from south to north. The area is also famous for its cherry blossoms, and along the road are the Sekisetsu cherry trees donated by the Japanese painter Hashimoto Sekisetsu.
