► Matsumoto Castle is one of Japan’s premier castles, in its original keep, built in 1504, and unlike most other castles in Japan, it’s exterior is black. The location is really beautiful, with the moat in the front, and hilltops in the background – well worth a visit if you’re visiting Japan.

Also, it’s interior is all original, in wood and stone, not concrete as the new rebuilt castles of Nagoya and Osaka. Together with Himeji Castle (and sadly, the now partly destroyed Kumamoto Castle) it’s one of the most beautiful original castles in Japan. – Enjoy!
