The Fukuoka City Subway Nanakuma Line is set to extend its service with a new section opening on Monday, March 27th. This 1.4-kilometer extension will connect Tenjin-Minami Station in Chuo-ku to Hakata Station in Hakata-ku, enhancing convenience and reducing travel time for passengers.

Currently, those traveling to Hakata Station via subway need to walk from Tenjin-Minami Station on the Nanakuma Line to Tenjin Station on the Airport Line to change trains. With the opening of the new extension, a direct connection will be established, cutting travel time by approximately 14 minutes.

An additional station, “Kushida Shrine Station,” will be introduced between Tenjin-Minami and Hakata Stations. This expansion is expected to increase the daily number of passengers between these two stations by more than 20,000, reaching a total of 82,000. City officials anticipate that the extended line will not only improve convenience but also alleviate traffic congestion in the city center and on the Airport Subway Line.

To mark this exciting development, Kyushu Live will be present at Hakata Station to livestream the first-ever departure and journey on the new extension route. Our coverage will also provide viewers with a tour of the next stations and highlight the new features this subway extension has to offer. Be sure to join us on Monday morning to witness this historic event!

  1. Thanks nick and emiko for the stream. I am the new sub here, who joined in super late.

It was nice to find a channel doing live from fukuoka. Will try to join your live stream from next time as much as possible.

  2. Nicely Done Nick and Emiko! Thanks again. Impressive to see how Fukuoka as been refined and improved from how I remember it. I think this should be a interesting glimpse into the unique culture and pride taken in most things in Japan, and the amazing level of engineering and dedication is invested in making transportation, efficient, practical and pleasant.
Allways a pleasure to spend a little time from afar in Fukuoka, and still at the top of my list for the world's most best cities and places to live.

  3. What a special experience to take part in! Thank you for waking up crazy early to do this and film it for our community. You guys are troopers!

  4. 早起きした甲斐あって、新しく開業した地下鉄の駅「櫛田神社前」も、七隈線の「博多」駅から空港線の博多駅への専用通路も、初日に見れました。たくさんのコメントもありがとうございます!!

  5. They say linear induction is proprietary but if you look at the last 5-ish lines that were built in Japan (I.e. separate from existing networks, requiring new yards), they all use linear induction technology.
