Since its opening in 1990, Gala Yuzawa Snow Resort in Niigata prefecture has been extremely popular among skiers and snowboarders from Kanto region. GALA Yuzawa is the only ski resort in Japan with its own Shinkansen bullet train station. The station and gondola lift to the slopes are within the same building. Such convenience makes GALA Yuzawa extremely popular for day trips from Tokyo. As of 2023, it is only about 74 minutes from Tokyo if you choose the fastest schedule. Not only the convenient location, but also GALA Yuzawa has outstanding amount of facilities and equipments; spacious locker rooms, souvenir shops, restaurants, huge selections of rental gears and wears. On top of that, there are shipping service and even onsen hot spring…!
In recent years, the ski resort has also become increasingly popular with skiers and snowboarders visiting from overseas, therefore the number of multi-lingual staffs at the site are also growing.
GALA Yuzawa has four main areas; Central Area, Southern Area, Northern Area and the Falcon downhill course. In this 360 video, you will see the Norther Area which is relatively quiet, and the Falcon downhill course. The Falcon is 2.5km (1.5Mile) of long, steep and narrow course where you have to share with others. If you are going to try this course in the end of the day, make sure that you still have enough power left to control your speed!
Also, everything is pretty expensive in and around the station to snow resorts. So, it is suggested to purchase your drinks ahead of time.
