U.S. Army’s historic Yokohama North Dock, where countless U.S. service members and dependents once shipped back and forth between the states and Japan on a long trans-Pacific voyage. Ship-board transportation of personnel ceased in the late 1960s when the U.S. Air Force Military Air Transport Service, or MATS, took full command over overseas personnel transport.

North Dock also served — and continues to serve — as a principal logistical supply port for the military. It remains under the command of U.S. Army Garrison Japan.
