Finally, after 3 intense days in Tokyo, it’s time to return to the “feel good” & calm side of things!

Hakone is a city near Mt. Fuji, Japan’s symbol and icon. The city is also known for its many onsens (hot springs).

From Shinjuku station, you can take the “Romancecar” train which leads you straight to Hakonematensen station. To use this train, you must buy a Hakone 2 Day Pass. With it, you also gain access to the local train rail and buses, which gets you to many of the main attractions in the city.

On the first day, because of the bad weather, I couldn’t get a nice view of Mt. Fuji! I wished I could get closer to the mountain! It didn’t stop me from visiting other areas though:

– Hakone Shrine is probably the most beautiful shrine I’ve visited yet. Located around Lake Ashi, you can see mountains and trees surrounding it. I couldn’t get to the very top of the shrine, but apparently the view is totally different than from the bottom! That’s for next time I guess!
– Odawara Castle is a very old ninja castle that belonged to clan Odawara. It now acts as a museum that explain the rise and fall of the clan;
– Onsens are very popular around the area. There is a particular onsen street in Ohiradai. I went to visit (and take a soak!) in one of the open air ones;
– Volcanic fumes can be seen from Mt. Owakudani. You get to it by take a rope car to the very top of it! From there, you can see Mt. Fuji in the distance very properly!
– The final destination was Lake Ashi. You can take a boat tour in a pirate ship to go all around it! The breeze felt very nice and what can I say about the view!

Overall, Hakone was a great city that I really enjoyed. The change from going to a huge city like Tokyo to this one felt very good for me. It was probably my favorite place to visit yet!

Enjoy the video! It’s personally my favorite. 🙂
