Shizuka visits Nikko for a wonderful luxury retreat in the mountains. She gets to witness an engaging fire ritual, where rhythmic chanting and the leaping flames of holy cedar transports you to an otherworldly scene.

After the tour of the temple’s main hall and scenic spots like Chuzenji Lake and Kegon Falls, Shizuka enjoys a fancy kaiseki meal in the Ritz Carlton’s dining room. The delicate art of kaiseki course dining is brought to life by the regional quality of unique mashiko-yaki ware and cuisine infused with Tochigi spirit.

  1. Peaceful at the temple. Ritz doesn't disappoint on luxury. Shizuka is rocking the robe. Funny, but I guess with filming, and not wanting to disturb guests, she was eating the dinner menu in the afternoon?

  2. What an amazing visit that must have been on every level! I must admit that I am a bit jealous that you were able to punctuate it with the Strawberry Kingdom.

  3. The food presentation is so artistic I'd feel guilty eating it – I'd have to ask the chef for permission, lol. And its kind of embarrassing for me that before now the only 'Momiji' I knew of was a character from the 'Ninja Gaiden: Dead or Alive' video game.

  4. Shizuka presentation of the R/C truly captured the refinement and esoteric elegance and simplicity of the experience and ambience .

  5. the scenery looks so beautiful, and the hotel is the icing on the cake, amazing design, and the food and drink looks so sophisticated in presentation and taste! the gorgeous views got me dreaming about enjoying that sensuous experience

  6. Great video you looked real nice in the outfit you wore to dinner the views are incredible the food looks so good thank you for sharing

  7. I would like/love to see more of this place. There is just not enough of it. Japan by food you have done such a good job bringing this vision and beauty but if ever there was a time to let the content last a little longer……

  8. とてもよいホテルと料理ですね。地元の食材を生かした和洋食といったようです。映像としずかさんの説明とその存在がよ、り高級感をかもし出しています。😄

  9. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    Seriously!

    The venue looks great!
    The food looks great!
For some reason this one just blows me away!
    Keep up the great work!

  10. That strawberry kingdom cocktail looked absolutely delicious shizuka, nice also that you always stay honest with your taste appraisals.

  11. it's hard to imagine any host that would suit a format like this better than Shizuka

  12. Ritz-Carlton looks like a very luxurious hotel to stay at. And I would definitely like to try their onsen. Thank you always Shizuka! Cheers!

  13. The Chuzenji Temple looks magical. Thanks for our weekly dose of Japan, Shizuka.

  14. One of my favorite things about this channel is that, even though the main focus is food, it is willing to show other aspects of the culture of Japan.

  15. Speaking of hotels, did you know that the oldest hotel in continuous operation is the Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan Hotel in the Yamanashi Prefecture? It has been operating since 705 AD which makes it 1318 years old. How amazing is that? Oh no! Now I am speaking like Shizuka… Maybe I should do a Japan by Food episode!!! I am only joking… Japan by Food without Shizuka wouldn't be so interesting for sure… She is the right one for the job! 😄😄😉😉

  16. Most people are taught that "you only need a good job to get rich". These billionaires are operating on a whole other playbook that many don't even know exists😊

  17. "Hello" from Prince Edward Island, Canada. Thank you for sharing, what appeared to be, an exquisite experience. Everything looked magical. From the location, to the room, to the food. If I can get to Tokyo, I will surely take (at least) a few days to visit Nikko.
