We just finished another whirlwind tour of Southeast Asia that took us to the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam. And our travel day back to the US started in Hanoi yesterday and took us into Bangkok where we spent the night before catching our flight from Bangkok to here in Tokyo. The next leg of this journey is from Tokyo to San Francisco and we’re really hoping that we’re gonna get upgraded to the United Polaris business class. If you’re not familiar with Polaris, think the private pods with lie-flat seats. It’s a game-changer and on a long flight like this (9.5 hours), it may make a huge difference.

ABOUT US

We’re the Lockwoods. And we’re traveling the world to experience—up close and in person—all the natural wonders and distinct cultures that our kids would otherwise be consuming only through textbooks and TV. We think it’s a better way to learn and we’re working hard to fund this little experiment in the hope that our kids will grow up wiser, kinder, and more grateful for the beauty of our diverse planet and its people.

  1. I bet the FA is a Filipino. 😊. Have been binge watching your vlogs. All the best to you all!

  2. First time I flew business class… absolute game changer for long haul flights IMO. Working on my credit so I can get one of those cards and use them for lounge access!

  3. husband speaking – 7 min 45 she in on the story but I need to get my walk in – no rain. Wife comes home Friday from Cebu, home for 7
weeks and she is going back for another 2 months. Since we are taking advantage of our ages and using wheel chair assist, we get to
board among the first group. Will pick the story up in an hour or so.

  4. Very professional, enjoyable and informative. Phil and Erin, your ability to do your long commentaries as you travel, is admirable… and it's nice to see your affiliate program offerings grow.

  5. finished the story – my wife got the final payment for our condo and moved the money to a bank that only lists her as a Filipino, the other two banks
has her as a dual citizen. ( I have one more day to clean house )

  6. I love united Polaris Business Class, I am an Emirates Platinum member and I got upgrades almost every Emirates long Haul fight.
    I really enjoyed watching this.
Looking forward to your next adventure.

  7. How fun and oh so comfortable.
My family flies OneWorld so have not yet experienced the new Polaris. I hope you can cross over and get to try the QSuites of QR, especially the ones that open into a quad configuration. It was nice to be able to dine with the kids. No issues at all with the rear facing seats.

  8. I love that you did a video of your business class experience, and did a mighty job. You & Erin gave Sam Chui and Jeb Brooks a run for their money! I, too, take advantage of my United Club card benefits when flying long haul on United & its Star Alliance partners. So hard to NOT fly business class once you’ve flown it, but sometimes I gotta bite the bullet and turn right when boarding 😩. Great Video!

  9. I absolutely agree with what Phil said regarding traveling with an economy class. Time seems to drag forever when your traveling. Getting a sleep is impossible for me as well since I cannot sleep while sitting. Dubai to Cebu is a 9 hour flight. Quite long to endure. I can only dream flying in a business class.😊

  10. Definitely looking into United Membership. We use Chase for everything but the points are used differently. These travel tips are super helpful especially since we travel 24/7👏👏👏

  11. I agree with you Phil, Business class seems to fly by so quickly compared to sitting in economy class🤭🤪

  12. Traveling sux. I don't know how you guys do it. I spent a month in Thailand and was sick for two weeks. Came home with a rash on my butt took a month to get rid off. I sleep commando that's why

  13. Thank you for your report but I would give big fat zero for United business class look at their meal presentation its more premium economy rather than business class also no hot towel no Menu card its just piece of paper what the hell is that unfortunately US carriers are so behind and bad when it comes to service and hospitality!
