Thanks for the excellent video. My understanding is that use of the official JR site is the only way to make a Shinkasen reservation in advance of getting the actual JR pass on arrival in Japan? Having said this, is it also correct that reservations are not permitted in general more than 30 days out from the date of the train being reserved. I will be arriving in Tokyo on May 1 and will leave that city on May 5 for travel to Osaka, Hiroshima and other places and was anticipating trying to start my pass on the 5th. I will be starting my travels at the end of Golden Week and was thinking that reservations on the Hikari might be necessary. Thanks.
