Matsumoto Castle is one of Japan’s most renowned historic castles alongside Kumamoto and Himeji castles. This castle served as the Takeda field headquarters during their conquest of the Matsumoto Basin. This castle changed hands many times after that event and as such, has quite a storied history.
Matsumoto Castle was voted as one of Japan’s Top 100 castles in 2006 and has been declared as a National Historic Site since 1930.
