This is part one of a winter photography shoot in remote Wakkanai, Japan’s most northerly city, on island of Hokkaido. The trip was inspired by the Hokkaido minimalist photography of Michael Kenna. Wakkanai was one of the locations of Kenna’s Hokkaido photos. Of course, the aim was not to copy Kenna’s work. It is to come up with fresh images in this extraordinary location.

For all the ground photography I used a Fujifilm X-T4 camera body with a Fujifilm XF.16-55mm f/2.8 and a Fujifilm XF. 50-140 f/2.8 lens. For the aerial video and photography I use a DJI Mavic Air 2.

Beautiful shots! Watching this from Sapporo right now😄
Nick's sheer pleasure at being in this magical location shines through. Great shots, wonderful drone work.
I had my heart in my mouth when the drone was in trouble. Well worth the chance though with great stills results. You bagged some beautiful
minimalist shots from the drone as well as on the ground. One thing I was quite taken with is the deep indigo blue of the water. All in all, an excellent shoot.
