In Osaka Bay, a giant Buddha keeps watch over the small island of Awaji. This is the setting for a garden like no other, called Awaji Yumebutai. In Japanese, it means ‘dream stage’: A garden formed of geometric shapes is nestled between sky and sea on 28 hectares of land.
This dream landscape also represents hope and resolve to rebuild the community that was devastated by the Great Hanshin earthquake in 1995. Today, it serves as the monument to honour the victims of the natural disaster.
