Japan Airlines Boeing 787: Travelling During A Global Pandemic

Welcome to another Trip Report! Here’s my flight out of Japan’s Narita International Airport, just as the COVID-19 Global Pandemic’s number of cases rise all over the world moving countries to lockdown borders. MORE INFO BELOW:

Reg: JA875J (Delivered December 2018)
Flight Reg: JL741 Operated by Japan Airlines
Cruising Alt: 38,000ft.
Cruising Spd: (GS) 847km/h
Actual Takeoff: 09:30:37 JST (GMT+9)
Actual Landing: 13:12:52 PST (GMT+8)

Meals Eaten:
Royal Milk Tea and Basic Hotdog Sandwich (500Y) – Tully’s Cafe @ NRT

COVID-19 Safety Measures Observed:
– All cabin and cockpit crew (Flight attendants, and pilots) were wearing masks at all times.
– I along with many of the other passengers were wearing masks except during meal service.
– Cabin was disinfected by ground staff prior to boarding, and was disinfected again upon arrival at Manila International Airport
– 14-day self monitoring was observed after arriving. Philippine Bureau of Quarantine cleared us passengers before being allowed to enter immigration.

Notes I took down, during flight:
Great service, not vlogger and camera friendly, but best passenger experience in Economy class. Food presentation can improve, it can also be made a little bit richer in taste for the curry. Side dishes were good. Quantity of food is more than the meal served on PAL’s NRT-MNL Flight. Worth it, especially that I got this ticket during a promo period. Service of the crew was just amazing, having in flight servers offering help every 5-10 minutes. That just means that the cabin crew call button is not even necessary on Japan Airlines’ planes. Crew can speak English, but if they hear you speak Japanese, they would automatically assume you speak Japanese or are Japanese, so they will also treat you and speak to you like a Japanese national. (they take note of who would probably need foreign embarkation passes in non-Japanese destinations, which they also teach you how to fill up in flight)
