Eating sea turtle is not just a local dish in the Cayman Islands, it’s the backbone on which the Caribbean country was built. I try the infamous meal for the first time by traveling away from the tourism spots to east end where the locals eat.

  1. Look yummy. Of course this is coming from someone who's eaten alligator and frog and enjoyed them haha 😋

  2. Caterpillars, Flying Ants, Grass hoppers & a couple of other things like ostrich, crocodile, Kudu, dyker, water buffalo, warthog…… just a few tasty elements from living in Africa! I still have to try turtle 😉

  3. It not going to lie. Im from the Caribbean and I grew up on eating sea turtle meat. It’s quite tasty and very addictive but since then it has become illegal to catch and eat turtle where I’m from. I’m glad that sea turtles are protected but if I can LEGALLY consume turtle meat,I’m the first one in line for some 🇻🇮 Some of the craziest things I’ve eaten are Alligator nuggets and cowfish/box fish

  4. I'm not very adventurous I'll eat a whole pig chittlings, hog maws, ears, tail, feet. I Love hog head cheese. But I think the weirdest thing I've eaten is cows tongue and cooked right I have to admit it was delicious 😋. My ex a a possum. I couldn't it looked like a rat cooking, it smelled good tho😃

  5. Turtle meat was caught and sold to Europeans as source fresh red meat during the conquest of the Carribean and Central and South America. You want real authentic Turtle Stew then find a Cayman restaurant, not with Jamaican cooks.

  6. I've eaten: howler monkey, iguana, snakes (various species) frog, green sea turtle, red footed tortoise, horse, dunkey, domestic dog, house cat, capybarra, rats, agouti, armadillo, alligator, caiman, crocodile, shark, octopuse, balut, insects, among many other "weird" foods.
There's an old Spanish saying: "Si se arrastra, corre, nada o vuela: ¡A la cazuela!

  7. Nice…. As much as I love turtle meat, where I come from, only the chief clan gets to eat. People will eat only if there's enough for everybody.
