I’m riding very slowly through the Mikamine Park in Sendai City and looking at the joyous arrival of spring with the Japanese. It’s Saturday, beautiful weather and it came to a hill of many Japanese people with families and friends. Hanami is full – the Japanese celebrating Sakura. Every year, the Japanese track the sakura-zensen, or cherry blossom front, every night is broadcast relevant information on the weather forecast. Flowering begins in Okinawa in February and typically reaches Kyoto and Tokyo at the turn of March and April. Moving further north, at the beginning of May reached Hokkaido. The Japanese carefully analyzing informations about Sakura. Together with friends and families they go to the parks, temples and shrines for hanami, or flower viewing – social gatherings picnic, sometimes combined with listening to traditional music and dancing.
