The Şanlıurfa Museum, which was moved to its own modern building spanning a wide area in 2015, has been open since 1965. The museum, which exhibits works from Şanlıurfa and its surroundings with a rich history, is of international importance in terms of “Neolithic period”. Another important feature of the museum is its possession of the works of Göbeklitepe, the oldest temple in the world.
Şanlıurfa archaeological museum, surrounded by many settlements, tumulus and ruins, which are of great historical value, represents geography rightly. The artifacts from the surrounding area and the remains of Harran which was inhabited from 3000 B.C. to A.D. 15 with its unique civil architecture are the backbone of the museum. The artifacts excavated from the area inundated by Atatürk Dam, Birecik Dam and Kargamış Dam are also waiting for visitors.
