Bike ride – Hanami and Sakura in Mikamine Park at Nishitaga, Sendai, Miyagi, Tohoku, Japan. I’m riding almost as slowly as possible through the Mikamine Park and — using the occasion — I will say a few words about Sakura. The most liked by the Japanese variant of cherry tree is Somei Yoshino. Its flowers are almost completely white, slightly tinged with pale pink, especially near the stem. Flowers develop and usually fall within a week, before they develop the leaves. For this reason, the tree seem almost completely white. The variety takes its name from the village of Somei (now part of the district Toshima in Tokyo). Established in the second half of the nineteenth century, at the end of the Edo period and the Meiji era. Somei Yoshino is so widely associated with cherry flowers that jidai-geki and other songs feature her place in the Edo period or even earlier. However, such descriptions are anachronisms.
