Today I’m taking this Amtrak sleeper train across the USA from New York to Los Angeles. The journey will take around 62 hours, passing through 12 states and 3,000 miles. I’m actually taking my Dad along with me today so let’s see how we get on in a roomette, and then for the longer stage of the journey the Amtrak Bedroom. I’ll show you what the dining options are like for each meal, the variety of classes, from First Class to coach and how you shower onboard. This is one of the longest train journeys I’ve taken to date and I can’t wait to share with you each step of the way.
Now this is a little different to many of my other train adventures, you can’t exactly call this luxury but it’s iconic and showcases the excitement of travelling across the entire continent of North America by train. You see things differently when crossing by rail.

Thank you for watching. Next time, i'll be posting my Ritz Carlton Yacht review. Can't wait to share. Hope everyone has a brilliant week ahead 🙂
So empty. Not many traveling about
7:53 You misspelled Lake Michigan….just giving you a hard time, love your content! Keep up the great work? I do have to ask, was this trip before or after the horrible disaster that was the train derailing in East Palestine, Ohio?
Both the accommodation and the food look absolutely grim.
“Rail travel isn’t about cutting time or money, it’s about the experience.”
Well said
There is a possibility I was out there between Dodge and La Junta on a BNSF train working as a conductor. Bravo on the pronunciation of La Junta and Pueblo.
Whenever you get around to travelling on the VIA Rail "The Canadian", make sure you don't do it in winter. First I would highly reccommend the prestige class. Recently renovated cars for the Prestige class passengers that are fantastic. Secondly, don't make the trip in winter! If you having a hard time with -20C, well parts of Canada with the wind chill in winter can hit up to -50C. The Canadian though is an amazing trip, though for some reason the tickets are cheaper if you start out of Vancouver, British Columbia compared to starting out of Toronto, Ontario. I believe the last time I checked prestige class is about $1200 difference, not sure why though.
That's not Millie.
Great vid as always !!!!
Nice to see your dad again. I don’t think the American trains are as nice as some of the others you’ve travelled on they look old and bit grubby. Although I guess it’s a good way to see the place. Looking forward to the next trip 👍❤
Your trip brought back wonderful memories for me. I've taken this trip to LA a few times since I don't fly anymore. I live in NJ, but I like leaving for Chicago from NYC. It's the shortest route to get to LA via train. I always enjoyed the extended stop in Albuquerque, NM, and to get a chance to pick up some jewelry from the Native Americans. Things have certainly changed since the pandemic. Coach passengers used to be able to have meals in the dining car, along with the First Class/Sleeper passengers. My favorite breakfast is the French Toast. I'm a new subscriber, and I look forward to viewing your other videos. Thank you for sharing your journey.
I’ve taken many many Amtrak trains over my years (born/raised in N. Illinois, currently live in Detroit). But after watching you take trains in other countries I now realize Amtrak is ghetto as hell! 😂 so archaic, so dusty.
Love this. I'm one of the few Americans would rather take the train than fly places, but I've never done this.
P.s. if you swap your pillow to the other end of the bed, it's a lot easier to get in and out of those top bunks…you can just kind of dive in and out lol
The Mississippi River crossing daytime edit insert was the wrong bridge. The Ft Madison bridge is a double decker, highway on top and rail below, with a swing span for river traffic. The one you showed was a lift bridge. 😉
scran – Naval slang for food. Sultanas Currants Raisins And Nuts = Scran 🙂
I must say, i was expecting much more from U.S train. Clearly traveling with trains isnt really a thing in States….everything felt so old inside the train 😄
Great Vid again mate! Looks like that first train could do with a bit of a facelift though. Keep Trekking!
awesome
The song that you play when you arrive at downtown Albuquerque is beautiful. Anyway know what that is and how I can listen to it. I’m gonna wear my phone out at this rate otherwise.
Love this adventure with your dad. ❤️
It's MichigAn BTW. Nice trip. On my bucket list.
As daft and disgusting as it sounds: I love a partially frozen cheesecake. Reminds me of my college-age treat for passing an exam.
You are best. 👌🔥 Greetings from Finland. Always waiting your new videos.
Great video. Interesting to find out day rooms are possible as I thought they were only possible at airport hotels.
When he said Scran, I thought he said Scram as in scrambled eggs.
Dream of doing a trip like this! Amtrak travel seems like so much fun.
It's always funny as a regular commuter through Chicago to see people using the Great Hall as the entrance instead of the commuter entrance a block east right off the river. Nothing wrong with it at all–and honestly probably better for everyone, it's mad there during commuter hours–but still takes me aback for a minute. And I was laughing a little about the temperature, but only from commiseration. Standing on the outdoor platforms as express trains go blasting by while you wait for a local on days even colder than when you were there are bitter to say the least.
You and your dad had quite the adventure! Thanks for taking us along! I love all your videos, but the train videos are a special favorite.
why no caviar today eh? Is that economy class or what
Several years back I had been assigned to bedroom A and found it most uncomfortable, the four others have considerably more room. Also the WC/shower door fully opens as well. I use a travel agent and have refused to accept A on the trip CHI to LAX. Service was great and their food is really good. The situation may be different for you, but I am on a cane and hobble along. Great video!
Excellent video as always, but at 2:20, your route map is highly incorrect – You show the route from NYC to Buffalo as cutting across Pennsylvania, then diagonally across New York State, on the south side of the finger lakes. The actual route runs due north parallel to the Hudson, then at Albany, turns due west and heads straight into Buffalo running parallel to the erie canal and interstate 90, north of the finger lakes. I've taken the Lake Shore Limited countless times now. You show the correct route map at 5:26!
MichigAn.
Have you thought about trying to add some bus traveling to the channel? There are a number of busses that will take you to quite a few places in the US with Greyhound probably being the least expensive but I'd love to see some of what the higher end bus services have to offer
Michigan not Michigen
Long trip 😢
Bro you are such a beast. Love the vids . New subscriber and can’t wait for your next vids !!
cough Lake Michigan cough
Didn't make it to end. More adverts than content. Such a shame as I do like the channel.
Our winters are no joke 😂
I have to say, one of my favourite vids so far from Trek Trendy… so awesome. From the epic journey itself to the undeniable #feels related to watching a boy getting to spend quality time with his Dad, this was SO good to watch. And I just want to thank you for making such great, high quality content. Seriously – you must spend so much time creating these reviews, complete with great footage and interesting factoids about the trip and the various stops…its such good viewing. Thank you!
You are we
As a former bartender and a current beer snob, we gotta work on your pour, Trek.
Great video per usual thanks for having us along 🥳
This is so great you can take your mom or dad on some of your trips
Amtrack needs an update. Looks so old and dirty
Great video and great trip. But boy that is expensive
Gotta love Stone; That's a good Brewery! Thanks for sharing the journey.
