Naples is a city in the south of Italy. A municipality with a population of about 970,000, including its surrounding areas. It is the capital of Campania and the province of Naples. It is the third largest city in Italy after Rome and Milan, and the largest city in southern Italy. The population of the metropolitan area is about 3 million. It is a port city and industrial city facing the Gulf of Naples. Originating as a colony built by the ancient Greeks, it became the political and economic center of Southern Italy as the capital of the Kingdom of Naples after the 13th century. It is a tourist city known for its picturesque scenery with Mount Vesuvius in the background, and it made Goethe say, “See Naples and then die.” The old town is registered as a World Heritage Site as “Historic Center of Naples”. Around Naples, there are tourist spots such as Mount Vesuvius, the ruins of Pompeii, and the island of Capri.
