Day Hike Near Sasebo, Japan: Mt. Kurokami

Welcome back to Sasebo, Japan! This week we are hiking Mt. Kurokami which is in Arita, Saga and only about 40 minutes (toll-free) from Hario here in Sasebo, Japan. This is the perfect day hike and almost the entire hike is covered so even on a hot day you’ll be protected from the sun by the trees. The top is on a large rock and heats up very quickly so make sure you have enough water and sun protection!

The hike took me 90 minutes up (keep in mind this is with filming so you’ll likely make it up faster than that) and 60 minutes down. I packed a lunch and spent some time at the top enjoying the views and relaxing before making the trek back down.

Parking is free and you’ll start at the Ryumon Dam & Woods/Trails parking lot (https://goo.gl/maps/S5YCDgDisTfTgVXY6). The trailhead is at the back of the parking lot near where the river is. I have a pin for it here: https://goo.gl/maps/jA7MaDiLcaQ3knf57

Make sure to follow the signs for Mt. Kurokami (黒髪)there will be multiple along the way but also take note that there are lots of trails in this area so it is easy to get turned around. You’ll pass a cave with a shrine in it and that means you are going the right way!
