In the early hours of October 31, 2019, a fire broke out at the site of the famous Shuri Castle in Naha, Okinawa. The fire quickly spread throughout the wooden structures, causing complete damage to several buildings, including the Seiden, the main hall and symbol of the castle, as well as the Hokuden and Nanden buildings. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

This video shows the site during reconstruction that is currently underway. The main hall is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2026.
